# Agentic checkout protocols adoption kit Evidence reviewed November 7, 2026. Use this worksheet to choose a supported channel, prepare accurate product information and measure completed business. A published protocol file does not guarantee assistant approval or sales. This kit is standalone. The companion article is at https://jwatte.com/blog/grocery-brands-acp-ucp-agentic-checkout-small-business/ . Fill in your own business facts. Do not submit applications, enable channels or run payment tests until the responsible owner has approved the specific work. ## 1. Plain-words protocol card | Name | Job | Stewardship and status on review date | Primary reference | |---|---|---|---| | ACP: Agentic Commerce Protocol | Common commerce exchanges between a merchant and an agent; implementation includes catalog, checkout and delegated payment work | OpenAI and Stripe. Repository labels the protocol beta, latest stable snapshot April 17, 2026. Since OpenAI's March 24, 2026 update, ChatGPT uses it mainly for product feeds and discovery, with checkout on the merchant's own site. ChatGPT program access is separate | https://github.com/agentic-commerce-protocol/agentic-commerce-protocol | | UCP: Universal Commerce Protocol | A store advertises supported shopping capabilities and how an agent can use them | Google co-developed it with Shopify, Etsy, Wayfair, Target and Walmart. Published release August 25, 2026. Google checkout has phased access; lodging work includes a draft | https://ucp.dev/specification/overview/ | | AP2: Agent Payments Protocol | Verifiable buyer permission for agent purchases and payments, using signed mandates | Originated at Google; v0.2 and donation to FIDO Alliance announced April 28, 2026. Standardization continues there; no automatic merchant enrollment | https://ap2-protocol.org/ | | MCP: Model Context Protocol | Connect an assistant to named functions, such as looking up an item or reading order information | Open MCP project, published protocol and implementations. Each connector has its own permissions and availability. It does not process a card payment by itself | https://modelcontextprotocol.io/docs/learn/architecture | Vocabulary: - A product feed is a structured catalog shared with another system. - A UCP profile is the public declaration at /.well-known/ucp on a store's domain. - A capability is a supported operation, such as catalog search or checkout. - A payment handler describes a supported payment integration. - A token is a restricted reference used instead of exposing reusable payment details. - A mandate is a digitally signed permission record. Current AP2 describes Checkout and Payment Mandates, each with open and closed forms. - An MCP server supplies tools. A tool is a named function. A connector links the assistant to that server. - A merchant of record is the business responsible for the sale under the transaction arrangement. Confirm this in the agreement for each channel. - A webhook is an event notification between systems. Fulfillment must reliably receive the final order state. ## 2. Choose the business and channel boundary Business: Owner approving the work: Catalog owner: Web/development contact: Fulfillment and returns contact: Target assistant and specific program: Merchant account eligibility confirmed by: Business country and customer countries: Eligible categories and excluded items: Payment provider and supported payment handler: Merchant of record under this agreement: Checkout location: own store / assistant program / delivery partner: Policies and terms reviewed on: Evidence URL or owner-held approval reference: Keep these revenue routes separate: 1. Wholesale supply to Kroger, Whole Foods or another retailer. 2. Sales on the brand's own online store after assistant discovery. 3. Embedded assistant checkout under a supported merchant program. 4. Retailer or delivery-partner orders involving the brand's product. Only the responsible person submits supplier forms and accepts program terms. An assistant may prepare the facts and draft the application. ## 3. Readiness checklist by platform These are documented routes, not confirmation that your account has access. ### Shopify - [ ] Review Agentic Storefronts settings for the exact assistant. - [ ] Separate ChatGPT catalog discovery and own-store checkout from Google's direct-checkout program. - [ ] For existing Shopify stores, check Starter or higher, a store outside private mode, and account standing. - [ ] Products need a title, image, positive price and publication to a supported channel. Agentic plan stores with an external store have separate setup requirements. - [ ] Check category, region, catalog and policy requirements in current account guidance. - [ ] Confirm the actual product and variant is available to the channel. - [ ] Establish where orders, refunds and attribution appear. - [ ] Do not commission a second catalog or custom checkout before checking the platform's existing route. Shopify's March 24, 2026 announcement documents Catalog integration for ChatGPT discovery and merchant-store checkout. A UCP file alone does not establish approval in any assistant. Current eligibility still requires account confirmation. Sources: https://www.shopify.com/news/agentic-commerce-momentum and https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/shopify-catalog/requirements . ### WooCommerce - [ ] WooCommerce is active and the store has the appropriate WooCommerce AI integration. - [ ] An authorized administrator or store manager connects the store and user account to WordPress.com. - [ ] Review the documented Enable agentic commerce setting. - [ ] Complete separate onboarding with the chosen shopping service. - [ ] Confirm its supported payment method and authorized testing process. - [ ] Resolve the current documentation difference: operational UCP help exists while the marketing status table still lists UCP and ACP as forthcoming. Sources: https://woocommerce.com/document/woocommerce-ai/agentic-commerce/ and https://woocommerce.com/agentic-commerce/ . Do not describe every WooCommerce store as generally enabled. ### BigCommerce - [ ] Identify the exact Agentic Shopping early-access program available to the account. - [ ] Distinguish storefront catalog/cart MCP tools from assistant payment eligibility. - [ ] Confirm payment, country, category and checkout requirements with the provider. - [ ] Assign catalog updates and order handling before joining a program. Source: https://www.bigcommerce.com/product/agentic-commerce/ . The current page labels Agentic Shopping Early Access; it does not establish universal ACP or UCP checkout. ### Square Online - [ ] Check eligibility as a US food and beverage business. - [ ] Maintain an active Square Online Ordering profile. - [ ] Verify location, hours, preparation time, pickup and delivery choices. - [ ] For Ask Maps, check the additional Google Business Profile and Order with Google requirements. - [ ] Review AI assistants controls and where order-source reporting appears. - [ ] Do not apply the food program to general retail, services or appointments, which the current page lists as forthcoming. Source: https://squareup.com/us/en/ai/agentic-commerce . Square says existing online processing rates apply and adds no Square platform fee for AI discoverability. Confirm your agreement; no fee amounts are quoted here. ### Wix - [ ] Confirm Wix Stores, a US business, USD selling currency and PayPal Payments. - [ ] Check whether the gradual PayPal Agentic Commerce Services beta has reached the account. - [ ] Exclude digital and subscription products from this route. - [ ] Review the connection in Sales Channels. - [ ] Use the PayPal AI order label in reporting. Source: https://support.wix.com/en/article/paypal-agentic-commerce-services-an-overview . Wix says there are no additional fees beyond regular PayPal transaction fees. This statement applies to that route, not every platform or assistant. ### Custom store with Stripe - [ ] Confirm program access and supported business country before building. - [ ] Choose Stripe-managed checkout, approved customization or your own UCP checkout. - [ ] Activate the Stripe account and complete the business profile. - [ ] Prepare the catalog and shipping, tax, terms, privacy and return information. - [ ] Establish reliable order notification, fulfillment, refund and dispute handling. - [ ] Record feature-specific status: the managed retail guide is labeled Frontier; catalog documentation is Private preview; full event handling has a separate US private preview. Sources: https://docs.stripe.com/agentic-commerce/sellers/use-cases/retail/checkout and https://docs.stripe.com/agentic-commerce/concepts/catalog-feed . The retail overview lists US, Canada and selected European countries for the managed route. Confirm the exact supported country and integration. ## 4. Product data checklist Use one row per purchasable item or variant. A SKU is your internal stock identifier. A GTIN is the global product identifier used with barcodes. Do not confuse a single unit with a case. | Field to verify | Your source and value | Owner and last review | |---|---|---| | Stable SKU and variant identifier | | | | Exact title, size, weight and pack count | | | | Assigned GTIN, preserving leading zeros; omit if unassigned | | | | Brand and actual seller | | | | Product page opening the correct variant | | | | Clear image of the exact variant, with permission to use it | | | | Price, currency and applicable sale conditions | | | | Availability and observation timestamp | | | | Shipping countries, charges and delivery conditions | | | | Pickup locations, times and cutoffs, where supported | | | | Tax treatment configured for the channel | | | | Returns, cancellation and support routes | | | | Ingredients and allergen wording from the approved package | | | | Market-specific label or formulation differences | | | | Removed items and feed deletion/update process | | | Do not invent a GTIN or publish an allergy assurance inferred from a photograph. Preserve uncertainty and send unresolved label questions to a person. An assistant must not turn a recipe preference into a medical claim. OpenAI's current feed reference distinguishes discovery from separately enabled checkout. Use its exact schema for that destination: https://developers.openai.com/commerce/specs/file-upload/products . Other destinations can use different names and requirements. ## 5. Should we adopt now? ```text Can we already accept and fulfill this sale reliably? No → Fix the existing offer and order process first. Yes ▼ Does a documented program support our business and customer region? No or unknown → Keep useful discovery and an existing order link. Yes ▼ Are the specific items and payment method eligible? No or unknown → Get a provider decision before building checkout. Yes ▼ Can the catalog, policies, tax and fulfillment stay accurate? No → Assign owners and repair the information flow. Yes ▼ Can we identify orders, refunds, costs and support work by channel? No → Prepare measurement first. Yes → Pilot the supported route with an approved assortment. ``` Special cases: - Physical goods online already: start with catalog accuracy and the platform's supported channel. - Shopify: check the built-in distribution path before paying for a custom one. - Alcohol, supplements and CBD: OpenAI's commerce policy, updated September 29, 2026, prohibits alcohol and supplements, including ingestible products promoted for health-related effects. Check CBD against the specific product and policy. Other channels have their own rules. Retail availability does not establish assistant eligibility. Source: https://openai.com/policies/commerce-policies/ . - Pickup only: eligible Square food sellers have a documented path. Other businesses need proof the channel preserves location and pickup details. - Services: use a suitable request or booking flow; do not mislabel the service as a physical product to gain access. - Lodging: UCP has draft lodging work and Google offers a lodging integration route/waitlist. Confirm that specific program instead of implementing a retail cart as a substitute. - Wait if nobody owns updates, fulfillment or dispute handling, or if expected contribution cannot justify maintenance. ## 6. Read-only sanity check of your own store These checks inspect information. They do not create carts, submit forms, call purchase tools or charge a payment method. Do not use them to probe another business. ### UCP profile - [ ] Open your own HTTPS domain followed by /.well-known/ucp once. - [ ] Record UTC read time, response status, final public URL and content type. - [ ] Confirm that the body is JSON, not an error page or generic storefront page. - [ ] Parse the JSON and inspect the advertised version. - [ ] Compare that version with the provider's supported version and official UCP release. - [ ] Read the named catalog, cart, checkout and order capabilities. Record only those actually present. - [ ] Confirm the advertised service and schema addresses match the provider's documented integration. - [ ] Review declared payment handlers; a declared handler is not a successful payment test. - [ ] Check that the public document contains no customer records or secret credentials. - [ ] Record which claims remain untested: account approval, item eligibility, live stock, tax, payment, refunds and fulfillment. Do not copy a different merchant's profile. Do not call the listed endpoints during this read-only review. Actual validation belongs in the provider's approved testing process for your own integration. ### Product feed and policies - [ ] Obtain your own export through its authorized interface. - [ ] Parse the file using the destination's format and required-field rules. - [ ] Match a chosen variant to its product page and current checkout data. - [ ] Check currency, pack size, image, price and stock observation time. - [ ] Verify policy links and supported destinations. - [ ] Confirm ingredient and allergen text against the approved label. - [ ] Check removal of discontinued items and the documented refresh cadence. - [ ] Record the platform's feed acceptance separately from checkout enrollment. Original illustrative JSON below: a private readiness worksheet, not an ACP feed, UCP profile or deployable configuration. The product is fictional. Blank values mean the owner has not supplied evidence. It contains no prices, credentials or customer data. ```json { "worksheet_version": 1, "example_only": true, "product_reference": "DEMO-PANTRY-001", "source_reviewed_at_utc": "", "target_channel": "", "catalog_verified": false, "price_and_currency_verified": false, "availability_verified": false, "ingredient_label_verified": false, "allergen_wording_verified": false, "shipping_and_returns_verified": false, "channel_eligibility_confirmed": false, "checkout_test_authorized": false, "checkout_test_completed": false, "remaining_questions": [] } ``` Validation for this kit: the original JSON example was parsed with JSON.parse. This verifies syntax only. No merchant integration or payment transaction was run. ## 7. Measurement sheet Choose a baseline period and a review period before launching. Save your definitions so later comparisons use the same basis. Baseline period: Pilot period: Channel: Checkout location: Assortment and region: Promotions, stockouts or other changes: Attribution source: Known attribution gaps: | Metric | Baseline | Pilot | Data source or caveat | |---|---|---|---| | Assistant-referred visits to own store | | | | | Own-store paid orders after assistant referral | | | | | Embedded program paid orders | | | | | Delivery-partner orders, where data is available | | | | | Fulfilled orders | | | | | Sales after discounts, excluding collected tax | | | | | Refunds, including partial refunds | | | | | Chargebacks and dispute costs | | | | | Payment-processing fees | | | | | Platform/channel fees under the agreement | | | | | Product cost and fulfillment cost | | | | | Support and maintenance time | | | | | Unknown/unattributed orders | | | | Reconcile using the business's order identifier. Never count the same order once as an assistant referral and again as an additional sale because it completed on the website. Keep wholesale revenue in a separate ledger. A cart, profile read or tool call is not a paid order. Working contribution calculation, to adapt with your bookkeeper: ```text Sales after discounts, excluding collected tax subtract refunds and chargeback losses subtract product cost and fulfillment costs subtract processing, platform and dispute fees subtract attributable support and maintenance costs = working channel contribution ``` Avoid double-counting refunds or chargebacks already deducted in the sales source. Revisit the period after later returns and disputes. This is an operating worksheet, not a promise of profit or an accounting standard. ## 8. Brand evidence table The table below pairs 2026 retail announcements with declared UCP readiness. All reads were on November 7, 2026, UTC. Each profile was read once and parsed; no referenced tools or checkout endpoints were called. Profiles declared UCP 2026-08-25, catalog and checkout capabilities, and Google Pay, Shopify card and Shop Pay handlers. All eight used Shopify's own capability names and Shopify-hosted service addresses; Shopify says agentic storefronts are active by default for eligible stores, so the files show what the platform publishes. Those statements do not establish assistant approval, deliberate opt-in, item eligibility, feed quality, regional availability or completed sales. | Brand and product | Retail placement and source read | Public UCP profile and read | What is not established | |---|---|---|---| | **Prima**, protein bars | [Kroger and banners, July 13, 2026](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/prima-launches-in-nearly-500-kroger-stores-nationwide-bringing-grass-fed-beef-tallow-protein-bars-to-millions-of-americans-302822903.html); read 21:07:01 | [Profile][ucp-prima], 21:07:45 | Assistant approval, eligible items and completed orders | | **MASA**, Original and Lime tortilla chips | [Whole Foods, June 22, 2026](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/ancient-crunch-expands-to-whole-foods-market-accelerating-national-growth-302806888.html); read 21:07:03 | [Profile][ucp-masa], 21:07:45 | Assistant approval, eligible items and completed orders | | **Unreal Snacks**, Peanut Butter Drops | [Whole Foods retail-exclusive launch, June 2, 2026](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/unreal-snacks-debuts-peanut-butter-drops-the-peanut-butter-sweet-snack-the-worlds-been-waiting-for-302787600.html); read 21:07:05; release also documents direct sales | [Profile][ucp-unreal], 21:07:46 | Current direct stock, item-level assistant eligibility and completed orders | | **happy**, Cold Brew and Perfect Vanilla Cold Brew, 48 oz | [Kroger first rollout during April; announced April 13, 2026](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/happy-goes-big-with-new-48oz-ready-to-enjoy-cold-brews-available-first-at-kroger-302740845.html); read 21:07:07 | [Profile][ucp-happy], 21:07:46 | Direct availability of this refrigerated format and supported delivery regions | | **Gymkhana Fine Foods**, simmer sauces and marinades | [US Whole Foods launch, April 30, 2026](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/gymkhana-fine-foods-secures-8-5m-series-a-led-by-cavu-consumer-partners-expands-into-us-302759441.html); read 21:07:08 | [Profile][ucp-gymkhana], 21:07:46 | US assistant eligibility or equivalence to the brand's other regional assortment | | **BEFORE**, toothpastes and mouthwashes | [US Whole Foods national launch, September 21, 2026](https://massmarketretailers.com/before-expands-u-s-presence-with-national-launch-at-whole-foods-market/); read 21:07:15 | [Profile][ucp-before], 21:07:46 | Item-level eligibility, assistant approval and completed orders | | **True Sea Moss**, flavored Sea Moss Gels | [Select Whole Foods stores, supplement section, April 22, 2026](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/true-sea-moss-expands-retail-presence-with-launch-at-whole-foods-market-stores-302750726.html); read 21:08:14 | [Profile][ucp-seamoss], 21:08:35 | Category eligibility, regional availability and completed orders | | **GoMacro**, MacroSquares snack bars | [Whole Foods nationwide exclusive launch, June 8, 2026](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/gomacro-launches-macrosquares-a-new-bar-format-with-layered-textures-and-a-half-dipped-finish-302793101.html); browser read 21:18:00 | [Profile][ucp-gomacro], 21:09:01 | Current direct assortment, item-level assistant eligibility and completed orders | For every row, the shelf product was not independently matched to a live assistant catalog. Sources and read times Source dates identify announcements; read dates identify when the evidence was reviewed. Program requirements can change. See the linked documentation and your account status before implementation. All source reads listed here occurred on November 7, 2026. Brand placement and profile read times appear in the evidence table. Browser observations supplement direct reads where needed. ACP repository content and UCP release metadata were read through their official public source interfaces. An independent accuracy review re-read the directly readable sources on November 7, 2026, between 21:29 and 21:42 UTC, and each brand's UCP file once at 21:40 UTC; the claims here matched those reads. -
